If you need to make an appointment please ring 01268 209222 and press 1 which will take you directly to our appointments line. Please remember that mornings, especially Mondays, are extremely busy and it may be easier for you to ring after 10:30 for a routine appointment.
Routine appointments with a GP are currently available two weeks in advance and with the nursing team up to four weeks in advance. It is a recommended that you book early to get a slot at a time convenient to you.
Whilst a very limited number of appointments are available for emergencies, there is often more demand than we can meet. If you really do need to see someone urgently please ring the above appointment number before 10:30. Please consider your request as you may be taking a slot that someone genuinely needs more than you.
When you make a booking with us and we have your mobile telephone number, we will confirm your appointment by text message.
It is sometimes possible to resolve an issue on the telephone which will take you less time and allows the doctor to consult more patients. Every day, each GP and a member of the nursing team has allocated telephone appointments. If you would like to speak to them rather than coming in, please telephone 01268 209222 and a message will be given to the doctor or nurse who will ring you back. Please remember to leave the telephone number you can be contacted on.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please telephone between 08:00 – 09:00 on 01268 209222 (option 1). We will then be able to give the slot to someone else.
Please call 01268 209222 and select option 2
We ask that all home visit requests are with us by 11am to enable us to plan the GPs day effectively. Visits are shared out equally amongst the GPs on duty that day so you cannot request a particular GP as they may not be working that day. Home visits are not done during the extended hours period.
The receptionist will need as much information as possible to enable the GP to prioritise requests. A decision to visit remains at the GPs discretion and is based on their assessment of medical necessity. On some occasions there may be a telephone medical consultation and advice given as an alternative.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
