Urine Infections

Who do I see?

Sample Needed

Advice:

GP appointments are not given for suspected urine infections. The only time GPs get involved is if there is no evidence of infection but the symptoms suggest something else is going on. Or the infection is ongoing. They would then refer for further investigations.

We request a sample be brought in so that one of our nurses can dipstick it to check for infection.

If there is a sign of infection, a prescription is issued for antibiotics as a starting point and the sample is sent off to the lab for more testing to see whether  a longer or different course of antibiotics is needed.

Samples need to be brought to the surgery between 8.30am and 1pm

Morning samples are preferred as the urine is more concentrated and will achieve more accurate results.

The Pharmacy First service also offer assistance for suspected urine infections.
